Majuro Musical by Infinity
April, 2018: The crew of the big red yacht Infinity this month spearheaded the making of a musical ditty about a slice of life in Majuro, capital of the Marshall Islands, which they described as “the most endangered country in the world due to flooding from climate change.” On the YoutTube post, titled Coconut Zen, the “Sea Gypsies” added that “most of the islands that make up the Marshalls are less than six feet above sea level.” SV Infinity has called Majuro home for the last five months and as they worked on preparing their boat for a long sail north, they reflected on how much they have “enjoyed the friendly and sublimely laid-back locals and that not much can hamper their coconut zen.”
The lyrics and vocals for Coconut Zen are by Australian Tony Mellen.
Infinity visits Enewetak
While in the Marshall Islands the sailing ship Infinity and her ragtag crew stumbled upon the Runit Dome. On their YouTube Channel they described the country as one of the most dangerous islands on earth. “Enewetak Atoll, the birthplace of the hydrogen bomb and the Anthropocene, this tiny atoll absorbed the nuclear equivalent of 1.5 Hiroshima bombs a day for 12 years. That legacy waits near the beach, in a giant unguarded crumbling concrete dome.” Below is their video that captures their time on the atoll and a slice of history.
