The Marshall Islands hosts a large number of religions and a majority of people attend church or temple on a regular basis. Note: The pictured church in Rongelap is of a style copied throughout most of the outer islands.

The Morning Star was a missionary vessel that played a crucial role in bringing Christianity to the Marshall Islands. It was sent to the Pacific Ocean in 1856, and its mission was to spread the Gospel to the indigenous people. The vessel was almost worn out and was thought better to build a new one than to repair the old one. The first missionary to go to sea in the Morning Star was Reverend Hiram Bingham Jr., who has known the vessel ever since. His story is detailed in the book “Story of the Morning Star,” which was written in 1866 and serves as a testament to the ship’s impact on missionary work in the region.
