Soccer has become a huge thing for Marshallese in RMI and the US mainland in recent years (see Official Site of the Marshall Islands Soccer Federation – The last nation on Earth without a soccer team… until now).
A little bit of background is that USA Today contacted me in 2018 to compile a story and video footage about soccer in the Marshall Islands. “But we don’t do soccer in the Marshall Islands,” I said. “Ah, that’s the point,” said the newspaper’s Trysta Krick. At the time, the final games of the 2018 World Cup were being played out in Russia. Check out the result below:
