Despite the fact that just about everything you buy in Majuro is either shipped or flown in from either the US, Asia (particularly Taiwan or China), Australia or New Zealand, you will find that the prices of most goods are relatively competitive with ‘mainland’ prices.
There are highs and lows, though. For example, one of the best food buys on island is to pay about three bucks at Island Pride Supermarket or Payless Supermarket for a slab of fresh yellowfin tuna for sashimi for two.

Other shopping tips include:

  • The big supermarkets open between 7:30am and 8am and generally close about 8pm or 9pm.
  • All of Majuro’s stores are mostly open on public holidays, except for Christmas Day.
  • It’s worth noting that Island Pride (also known as K&K) and Payless both regularly have raffles. Keep the tickets … if you don’t want them, there’s always someone who will love to use them!
  • Island Pride and EZ Price Mart both have bonus point cards that you can register for. Some have retiree cards, including Island Pride.
  • Again, only the larger stores take credit cards, but many stores will accept personal checks.
